VIDEO: Old landfill dump site now on fire as well

POND ISLAND — Video footage received by StMaartenNews.com this evening at 6pm shows the old landfill dump site – aka Mount Dump – now on fire as well. Once we have more confirmed details, we will be bringing you more information on this new development set against the backdrop of the existing fire on the new dump site next to the Little League Stadium.

COM in Emergency Meeting Regarding Second Fire on Pond Island

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Prime Minister Leona Romeo Marlin is currently chairing an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers this evening (Tuesday) at the Government Administration Building regarding a second major fire on Pond Island.

Late Tuesday afternoon early evening, a second major fire erupted at the sanitary landfill where household trash is dumped on a daily basis by waste disposal contractors.

At the moment, the Fire Department, personnel from the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI), and the Landfill Management Contractor, are currently busy extinguishing the fire.
