KHS&S Contractors clocks fastest time

Heineken Regatta - Sailing - Day One - 20180302 MP

Great Bay — Wind is often an essential part of sailing. Too much can have an adverse effect, too little can result in boats arriving at the starting line, too soon or too late. But it all came down to experience and team work at the start of the 38th St Maarten Heineken Regatta which commenced this morning.

Despite the fact that the number of participating boats has dropped significantly, the level of international entries remained the same among the over 100 boats in 13 classes that are competing for podium place this year.

The Around the Island race has always been the trendsetter of the regatta, but this time only the much bigger boats were required to navigate the island while the remaining entries stuck to a series of selected markers between Great Bay and the Anguilla channel.

In the Island Time Class, Avocation from the USA recorded the fastest time ( e 02,58,05-  02,47,24). Occupying the number two slot was Amarone from Sweden ( e 03,16,24-  03 06,35) and in third place was Maline ( e 04,37,37- 03,26,06). Eight boats fell into that class.

The Island Time Inshore class winner was Fiji racing Team with a 1st and 2 second places, in 2nd was Micron 99 with a 1st and 3rd and a 4th place followed by Kids at Sea 3 Peake with a 1st, 3rd and 4th place.

The Bareboat overall winner are KHS&S Contractors (e 02,32,37- 03,05,04), Autoboat Bow 140 (e 02,50,09- 03,30,24) and Twinning Bow 133 ( e 02,58,42- 03,34,23). Even with the 16 boats in that class, there were no protests.
