Owners can claim looted items at police station in April

PHILIPSBURG – Owners of goods that were stolen in de aftermath of Hurricane Irma can reclaim their property on Friday, April 6 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the police station in Philipsburg. The prosecutor’s office said in a press statement that citizens who want to reclaim their property will have to present proof of ownership.

On April 6, citizens can visit the police station to view the goods that have been confiscated from looters. Items that are not claimed will be donated, auctioned or disposed of.

The prosecutor’s office said that a “collective decision in accordance with the law” has been made regarding the confiscated goods. Food and beverages that are expired will be disposed of. Beverages that are not expired and not claimed will be auctioned. Cigarettes and cigars that are expired will be disposed off.

Food that is not past its expiration date will be donated to people and organizations in need.

Unclaimed electronics will be donated to schools, youth and community centers, auxiliary homes and non-profit organizations or they will be auctioned.

Other unclaimed goods like scooters, furniture and motor bikes will be auctioned.
