Voice of reason

The voice of reason won in Friday’s elections in Curacao but only just.

Rhuggenaath’s PAR got the better of the MAN and, more importantly, Gerrit Schotte’s MFK, but the difference with those parties is just one seat.

Because the PAR has excluded MFK and Amparo dos Santos party KdnT from a new coalition, he will have to work with MAN and possibly with the new party of Suzy Camelia-Römer to form a majority.

Time will tell how long such a combination will be able to withstand the dark forces that are constantly at work in Willemstad to undermine fairly elected governments.

A period of stability similar to what seems to be in place now in St. Maarten would be the best solution – for the country and the people, but not for Gerrit Schotte.
