On Saturday the 9th of June, the Nature Foundation organized a very successful Shark Day for children at Buccaneer Beach Bar, which was attended by about 100 kids. Signs construction contract for ORYX residences to be completed in 12 months On Monday June 18th, Algemeen Pensioenfonds Sint Maarten (APS) signed the construction agreement with contractor Liccom NV for the construction of its new housing development project; ORYX Residences in Cay Hill. The contract signing will allow for construction of the 62-unit housing development project to commence this summer. The project is expected to be completed in 12 months, by summer 2019. Philipsburg — Annually, the University of St. Martin (USM) hosts students of Tulane University located in New Orleans USA, on their visit to St. Maarten/St. Martin as part of their cultural anthropology courses. The students completed their visit by attending a lecture at USM by instructor Dr. Rhoda Arrindell on the topic “Language and Culture”. The Detective Department is presently investigating a case of ill-treatment with a weapon which took place on Sunday June 17th at approximately 01.00 p.m. at a bar located on the Sucker garden road. On the scene the investigating officers encountered female whose clothing was covered with blood. The officers also noticed evidence of blood on the floor of the establishment. This female stated that she works at the bar and was busy doing her work when a man unknown to her walked into the establishment and started causing problems. A South African man on Sunday June 17th arrived on Sint Maarten with a Jet Blue flight originating from New York and attempted to enter Sint Maarten illegally was arrested by the Alpha Team at the Princess Juliana International Airport. The suspect used a false/falsified passport and identification card to gain access into country. The identity of this suspect has not been established and has been placed into custody for further investigation.
