From our correspondent
Roseau, Dominica – October 27 2026 — Grenada officially launched its 2026–2027 cruise season with the arrival of the Coral Princess at the Melville Street Cruise Terminal, ushering in a new period of economic activity for businesses and individuals involved in the tourism industry. The season is expected to feature 192 scheduled cruise calls through May 2027, including visits to Carriacou, with vessels ranging from large cruise liners to luxury ships and sailing vessels bringing visitors to the destination.
The season is expected to create opportunities for tour guides, transport operators, vendors, artisans, restaurants and attractions to benefit from visitor spending. Minister for Tourism, the Creative Economy and Culture, Adrian Thomas, emphasised the importance of ensuring that local communities share in the economic gains generated by cruise tourism. He noted that the knowledge, creativity and hospitality of Grenadians formed an essential part of the visitor experience and stressed the need to support sustainable livelihoods through greater local participation in the sector.
The busiest stretch of the season is projected to fall between December 2026 and February 2027, with 38 calls expected in December, 42 in January and 44 in February. Grenada Tourism Authority Chairman Randall Dolland said each arrival presented an opportunity to encourage visitors to explore more of the country and consider returning for longer holidays. He highlighted the importance of delivering memorable experiences that connect cruise passengers with Grenada’s culture, attractions and local communities while generating business for tourism operators.
Attention will also be given to coordinating visits to Carriacou, allowing passengers to discover the sister island’s maritime heritage and distinctive attractions. Shanai St. Bernard, Nautical Development Manager at the Grenada Tourism Authority, said collaboration among cruise lines, port authorities and local service providers would be important in ensuring efficient arrivals and positive visitor experiences. She highlighted the need for reliable services, clear information and effective coordination to benefit passengers and strengthen Grenada’s relationships within the cruise industry.
