Rotary Spreading Christmas Cheer

Philipsburg — With a joint effort between the St. Dominic High School Interact Club and The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle we were able to put together two joint projects. Mid Isle headed the project to donate thirty care packages for the less fortunate people in the community. These packages contained food items, toiletries, handmade iced Christmas cookies along with a candy cane.

Ten baskets were donated to the Anglican Church on Back Street, ten baskets went to the Bishop Ellis Foundation and ten baskets went to Social Services for distribution. Items and goods collected by the SDHS Interact Club were also used in the care packages.

The act of giving back to the community transformed the entire class of 4th formers and the Interact Club of the St. Dominic High School into a team as they executed their annual Seniors Citizens’ Brunch. They catered to 80 seniors at the Seniors’ Home in Hope Estate, and presented them with a variety of foods, performances, and activities. Their club prepared gift baskets to give out to each of the senior citizens filled with goodies and toiletries. These gift baskets were made possible with the immense help from the Rotary Club St. Maarten-Mid Isle.

Both Mid Isle Rotarians and SDHS Interactors were present at all presentations. With these two projects Mid-Isle and the SDHS Interact Club we were able to distribute 110 baskets and 30 food boxes.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mid Isle Rotarians, SDHS Interactors, Friendly Island Pharmacy, ACE Hardware, Fairway Market, Sanjana Manek and Radha Vaswani.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in the community a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and prosperous 2018.

The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle presently meets Tuesday at 7pm at Pineapple Pete in Simpson Bay. For more information please contact rotarysxm.mi@gmail.com or visit our face book page Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle.
