St. Maarten Government Court of Arms** GOVERNMENT OF SINT MAARTEN INFORMS **

** Manual for the voter **

(Art. 52, third section, Electoral Ordinance)

You cast your vote by coloring red with a pencil the white dot in front of the name of the candidate of your choice.

The ballot paper will be invalid if you have:

· not colored red any white dot;
· colored more than one white dot red;
· casted your vote other than with red pencil; or
· adding of any additions (texts or drawings) or if the ballot paper contains an indication of the voter.

If you make a mistake while completing your ballot paper, please return it to the chairman of the polling station and ask for a new ballot paper. The chairperson will for one time only provide you with a new ballot paper.

You may not remain in the polling booth longer than is necessary to complete your ballot paper.

After completing the ballot paper, you must fold the ballot paper in such a way that the list of the candidates is not visible. Before placing the ballot paper into the ballot box you show the third member of the polling station the outside of the ballot paper on which the signature of the chairperson of the central voting bureau is visible.

** ELECTION DAY FOR THE EMPLOYER **

Every employer is obliged to ensure that each employee in its employment, whom is an eligible voter, receives the opportunity to cast his/her vote:

• in the event such cannot take place outside of the scheduled working hours, and
• the voter is not hindered for more than two (2) hours from carrying out his/her work.

Please note that the polling stations are opened from 8am-8pm.

The employer whom handles contrary to the foregoing, will be sanctioned with detention (Dutch: hechtenis) of maximum 1 month or a fine of maximum one thousand guilders.

In this regard, reference is made to article 45 and 129 of the Electoral Ordinance.

New Government Administration Building

** PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT **

The Council Of Ministers hereby informs the General Public that Civil Servants have been granted time off from work to vote, as of 3:00 PM on Monday February 26th 2018, if the service permits.

Civil Servants that may opt to vote at another time will require permission from their respective Management.

** URGENT NOTICE ~ Civil Registry **

The Management of the Civil Registry department would like to inform the public of the following:

In connection with the upcoming Elections, both locations of the Civil Registry department (Philipsburg and Simpsonbay) will be closed on February 26th and 27th 2018.

The Philipsburg office will be open on February 26th 2018 solely for Election purposes. This from 08.30-18:00

Both locations will resume their regular working hours on Wednesday February 28th, 2018, at 08.30 a.m. by scheduled appointments.

Management of the Civil Registry apologizes for any inconvenience.
