Apology

elton-jones-526x500Dear Editor,

The past week has given us many issues to reflect on or critically dissect to determine where we stand in the greater plan of it all. We have seen with quite some interest the letters back and forth between our prime minister and the minister of kingdom affairs. Each clinging to his point of departure on the protocol signed on the establishment of an Integrity Chamber. It would seem that though it is clearly pointed out that the agreed time has elapsed and we are taking measures to remedy the shortcomings exposed in the many studies and investigations the Dutch simply like most bullies won’t accept that this issue is a bridge long passed.

Even though in their mind size matters more than the word or spirit of the agreement signed they stubbornly maintain that might is right and they will have it their way at all costs. We have also watched with much interest the results of the Dutch elections even though we don’t vote for their Parliament what happens there affects us whether we like it or not. But for this article won’t be dedicated to that I prefer to wait for a more definitive result and then dip into the pros and cons for our little rock.

I however, will like to refer you to an article I sent to the editor last week in which I claimed that the minister of finance had submitted a law proposal to the social economic council on tax reform. I went on to explain some of the things I found unfair to our people and country such as the setting of fines and the years the inspectorate will be able to go back in forcing compliance. I have since met the minister concerned and he pointed out that there is no such ordinance being contemplated and there certainly is no proposal at the SER.

Some years ago I promised the readers that I won’t get into sensationalism and falsehoods for it is not my idea to belittle embarrass or wrongly accuse anyone. I have an obligation to check and verify information given to me before putting it out in the public domain. My source has been very reliable in the past and I neglected my duty to clarify the authenticity of the report. So simply put I did not act responsibly; Mea Culpa.

Through this writing I would like to apologize to the government and especially the affected minister. I hope they accept this apology in the spirit in which it is given. No malice or intent to cause harm or damage guided the printed item but I have learnt from that. Once again honorable friends I am truly sorry if anyone was hurt by my false statement.
