Dominica Foundation St. Maarten hosts information session with Dominica Social Security

Philipsburg –The Dominica Foundation St. Maarten (DFS) will be hosting representatives of the Dominica Social Security (DSS) at its upcoming general meeting.

DSS will provide information on the services available for Dominicans residing on St. Maarten/St. Martin. 
The Provisions for Voluntary Coverage are intended to allow Dominican Nationals who are not currently engaged in Insurable Employment (i.e. either as employees or self-employed persons) in Dominica to voluntarily make contributions into the Dominica Social Security (DSS) System—with a view to gaining access to the Long-term Benefits (Age, Invalidity and Survivors) as well as (Funeral Grant) which are available under the program.

Such provisions apply to Dominicans who are resident in foreign countries with which Dominica does not have reciprocal arrangements and who either:
• had previously contributed to the DSS prior to migrating; OR
• may not have previously been registered with the DSS but wish to voluntarily participate in the program.
In the case of those who had previously contributed, their voluntary contributions will be added to their previous contributions and, thereby, enhance their future entitlement to the long-term (Pension) benefits and Funeral Grant while, for those who were not previously associated with the DSS, their voluntary participation—over the relevant period—would help them to eventually qualify for the said benefits.

The DSS Program is a contributory one, whereby the amount of contribution payable is related to the level of one’s earnings, and entitlement to benefits is dependent upon satisfying the relevant qualifying conditions.
 All Dominicans should partake in this opportunity to facilitate a secure future for yourself and family in these uncertain economic times.

Persons interested are ask to bring along their passport with their old social security card if available or an original birth certificate and marriage certificate if applies. 
Other topic that will be discussed is the upcoming Fund raising event in aid of the Serrant Family who lost their home in Dutch Quarter due to a fire. This meeting is scheduled for Thursday June 28th 2018, commencing 7:30pm at the University of St. Martin.
