Minister De Weever calls on nation to give ideas for the Golden 50 Carnival 2019

Minister Cornelius de Weever

POND ISLAND — Sint Maarten — The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF), the entity that organizes the annual Carnival festivities, this week started a campaign to garner ideas for the 50th anniversary of the country’s largest cultural display.

SCDF is asking for ideas about events, slogans, projects, activities ect., and persons have until June 10, 2018 to submit them to email address: sxmcarnival50@gmail.com
SCDF stated this week that submission of an idea does not mean it would automatically be included in the way the person who submitted it intended, but it could be incorporated in some form or fashion.

Acting Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT) Cornelius de Weever, says this is a golden opportunity for Carnival revelers, supporters and others to contribute in making their mark on Carnival 50.

“Carnival is one of our biggest tourist’s attractions and a key part of the country’s annual calendar of events. It brings forth economic benefits for our tourism-oriented economy.

“I would like to suggest the following as my contribution to the idea SCDF campaign, to invite the neighbouring islands to participate in the parade with their costumes; pay tribute to the stalwarts of Carnival; some slogans could be, ‘Ready for Fifty,’ ‘Fete for Fifty,’ ‘Fit for Fifty,’ and ‘Together for Fifty.’

“I am pleased that SCDF has given the community the opportunity to share their ideas with them which can only add to the cultural enhancement of this event and making it a truly golden one,” Minister Cornelius de Weever said on Wednesday.
