Schoolboy in Wartime presented to “Rotary Club St. Maarten-Mid Isle” by author Gerard van Veen

SBWGREAT BAY —  St. Martin — The World War II autobiography Schoolboy in Wartime — Memories of My Early Years is the newest book published in St. Martin and its author Gerard van Veen is in demand.

Gerard van Veen was invited by Rotary Club St. Maarten-Mid Isle to be its guest speaker last week (6.5.18), at which time he presented Schoolboy in Wartime to the Club, said Jacqueline Sample, president of House of Nehesi (HNP), the book’s publisher. Dutch journalists from newspapers such as Alkmaarse krant and Telegraaf have been seeking out the veteran author for interviews or a review copy of the book that’s centered in the Netherlands city of Alkmaar during the Nazi occupation, said Sample. At the St. Martin Book Fair (6.2.18), octogenarian Van Veen gave a workshop on how adults, including senior citizens can write their own book about traumatic or dramatic experiences that affected their childhood such as civil strife, major accidents, and hurricanes. Schoolboy in Wartime is available at Van Dorp and Arnia’s bookstores.
