PHILIPSBURG – In response to the criticism expressed by Dutch attorney Wim van Sambeek in an article titled “Mullet Bay Parliamentary Inquiry-proposal fully misses the point”, member of Parliament Rolando Brison wrote to StMaartenNews.com that he agrees the parliamentary inquiry is a far reaching instruction and that is precisely why he is using it.
“Successive governments for over 22 years have proven to not be able to answer the questions to the public regarding the ownership surrounding Mullet Bay nor take action.” MP Brison emphatically stated. “The parliament of St Maarten must finally seize control of the situation and find out the truth behind Mullet Bay; and this inquiry fully grasps that point.”
The latter statement was in regards to the point that the attorney stated in the referenced article that the purpose of a parliamentary inquiry should be to be used as an instrument to exercise control (in terms of checks and balances) and to be used for determining the truth.
“The article is the opinion of just one lawyer,” wrote MP Brison. “One, who from what I understand, does not even live in St. Maarten. Meanwhile I have received much support and encouragement from various other lawyers and firms in St. Maarten. That is the legal nature of things: legal minds can have differing opinions. This inquiry will aim to take the opinions and expertise of many and formulate a true way forward in regards to Mullet Bay and other beaches in St. Maarten.”

MP Brison said he was very happy for the opportunity to interact with the students and intends to do much more of these activities with St. Maarten’s best and brightest.
