Cost Pro Supermarket in Madame Estate robbed
MADAME ESTATE — During the afternoon of Easter Monday, April 22, 2019, news reaching our news desk indicated that a daring broad day robbery took place at the Cost Pro Supermarket in Madame Estate whereby all cash registers were ripped out and stolen while the supermarket was open for normal business operation. StMaartenNews.com contacted the management of the supermarket for further information on this high day robbery.
According to General Manager, Peter J. GIttens, there were at least 4 robbers of which 3 were armed with guns and a getaway car (driver) on the outside. The armed robbery took place around 1pm. Gittens said the response time of the police was impressive. Police and detectives were immediately on the scene shortly after the robbery took place.
The Sheriff Security guard who was on the scene at the time had alerted the main office as he called in the code and Sheriff Security immediately notified the police. Gittens commended the security guard for his quick action as the guards are not armed and are always advised not to engage the perpetrators in a situation like this, but to observe and notify immediately.
The staff was naturally shaken up, but thankfully no one was hurt, Gittens reported. “It is not easy when you have a gun to your head.” Gittens was quoted as saying to StMaartenNews.com. “We always advise everyone to not to play the hero in a case like this.”
According to Gittens the damages were limited to only the “cables and stuff” connected to the cash registers. However, all effort was being made to have the supermarket back open for business Tuesday morning at 8am as usual.
In the meantime, police and detectives are conducting their investigations into this high day robbery. StMaartenNews.com will bring you more news as soon as we have received an official report from the police authorities.
