“Dominica, we stand with you” says Dominica Foundation St. Maarten

St. Maarten (September 22, 2017) – The Dominica Foundation Sint Maarten wishes to express its solidarity with the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica after the passing of Hurricane Maria which devastated our beautiful country.

Having just suffered the same terrifying experiences with Hurricane Irma on September 6, 2017, we sincerely feel your pain and loss amidst the chaos now engulfing entire communities in Dominica.

We are not in Dominica in person, but rest assured we are there in spirit. We Dominicans on St. Maarten, some of us  having lost our homes and our possessions, were touched and consoled when the Prime Minister of Dominica, the Honorable Roosvelt Skeritt visited St. Maarten on Sunday (September 17, 2017) to meet with the Dominican community here and pledge his support to help in our times of need. He rushed back home that same day only to be faced with the devastation of his country, Dominica, in a matter of 24 hours.

His presence here was comforting. He brought the community of St. Maarten water and much-needed supplies which were distributed to both sides of the island through the government on the north and south, as well as through the Dominica Foundation Sint Maarten.

To my fellow Dominicans back home, you can take comfort in the fact that in Mr. Skeritt you have a leader who is caring, compassionate and one who recognizes that we are all each other’s keeper and need each other in good times and in bad times. He will lead Dominica to a better place after this terrible ordeal.

Though we cannot offer much in assistance presently, we will be there in the near future to love, comfort and help our lovely Nature Island in its quest to a better future for all.

God bless Dominica and all the beautiful people of Dominica.

Clayton J. Felix (Mr.)
President, Dominica Foundation St. Maarten
