Carnival Corporation Projects Double-Digit Cruise Growth for Bonaire by 2027
From our correspondent
Roseau, Dominica – October 28, 2026 — Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise company, has projected a significant increase in cruise capacity for Bonaire by 2027, highlighting the island’s growing importance within its southern Caribbean itineraries. The outlook was presented by Marie McKenzie, the company’s Senior Vice President of Government and Destination Affairs, during the annual Bonaire Tourism Summit held on September 24 at the Van der Valk Plaza Beach Resort.
Speaking under the presentation title “A Global Fleet, A Local Partner,” McKenzie revealed that current deployment schedules indicate double-digit growth in cruise capacity between 2025 and 2027. Seven cruise lines operated by Carnival Corporation are expected to visit Bonaire in 2027. She stressed that sustained cooperation with destination partners would be essential to ensuring that the anticipated expansion supports responsible tourism development.
McKenzie also underscored the need for increased cruise activity to generate tangible benefits for local businesses and communities. She identified shore excursions, transportation, restaurants, retail outlets and cultural attractions as areas where residents and local entrepreneurs could participate more fully in the tourism economy. “As our presence in Bonaire grows, strong local partnerships become increasingly important. We want cruise tourism to create opportunities for businesses and communities while respecting the natural environment and the qualities that make Bonaire unique,” she said.
The Carnival executive outlined the company’s sustainability priorities, which focus on climate action, the circular economy, sustainable tourism, biodiversity and conservation, as well as well-being, inclusion and belonging. Initiatives include reducing food waste, developing shore-power connection capabilities, producing freshwater onboard, supporting reforestation, partnering with local organizations and educating passengers about responsible tourism. Bonaire, frequently included alongside Aruba and Curaçao on southern Caribbean cruise itineraries, is known for its marine life, natural attractions, ecotourism and outdoor activities.
