Electoral Office Continues Voter ID Card Distribution Following Confirmation Exercise
From our correspondent
Roseau, Dominica – October 19 2026 — The Electoral Office of the Commonwealth of Dominica has advised that the distribution of national Voter Identification Cards remains underway, urging eligible citizens to collect their cards from the designated registration offices serving their respective communities. The initiative follows the island-wide voter confirmation exercise, which sought to update the official register of electors. Citizens are encouraged to obtain their identification cards and familiarise themselves with the requirements governing voter identification ahead of future elections.
Dominica’s electoral officials have also cautioned recipients to safeguard their cards against loss or damage. Anyone who misplaces a card cannot simply request an immediate replacement, as the process requires a formal application and payment of the $100 replacement fee. Voters are therefore being encouraged to keep their identification documents in a secure location to avoid unnecessary delays or additional expenses.
The public can obtain further information on collection arrangements, registration matters and identification requirements by contacting the Electoral Office at 1-767-617-9595 or 1-767-275-8164. Additional guidance is available through the office’s official website, https://electoraloffice.gov.dm/, or by emailing electoraloffice@dominica.gov.dm. Citizens are encouraged to consult the department directly if they are uncertain about the documents required to collect their cards or the procedures applicable to their circumstances.
The voter confirmation exercise originated from reforms to Dominica’s electoral framework, with the Electoral Commission announcing May 22, 2025, that the process would commence on September 1 of that year. The exercise was established under Section 50(1) of the Registration of Electors Act and was initially scheduled to run until August 31, 2026, before the confirmation deadline was set for October 14, 2026. The wider reform programme also included legislation addressing parliamentary elections and the Electoral Commission, with the stated objective of improving the accuracy of the voters’ register and strengthening the integrity and efficiency of the electoral system.
As of 2026, the Electoral Office operates under the direction of the Electoral Commission, while its day-to-day administration is overseen by Chief Elections Officer Anthea Joseph, who assumed the post in November 2024. The Commission’s published leadership comprises Chairman Duncan G. Stowe and members Lennox Lawrence, Wayne James, Alick Lawrence and Hillary Shillingford. The body is responsible for overseeing the registration of electors and the conduct of parliamentary elections, while the Electoral Office manages the operational work involved in delivering these services.
