Collectivité installs three fitness trails

MARIGOT – As part of its prevention policy on the risks related to overweight, the Collectivité launched the construction of three fitness trails in August.

These public amenities have been provided to fight overweight and prevent cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and hypertension, through local and free access physical activity. In the light of the challenges and high goals of this project related to sports and health, the Collectivité of Saint-Martin has identified three geographical sites likely to meet the desired criteria: attendance, readability and access.

The sites chosen are Galisbay/Seaside, Concordia/Media Library, as well as the path of the Natural Reserve connecting Spring/French Quarter to Galion beach, on the bay estuary. A convention was signed with the Conservatoire du Littoral and the natural reserve for the occupation of the parcel concerned.

The construction work of the Concordia and Galion fitness trails has been completed and these trails are now available to the public. The Galisbay/Seaside trail is currently being installed.

A €150,000 budget was assigned to these projects by the Collectivité of Saint-Martin, which will receive a €50,000 contribution from the ARS, a key partner in the project. In the long term, the fitness trail will enable everyone, from age 13 and up, to practice a physical activity (bodybuilding, gymnastics, etc.) in a natural area.

Different gym equipment with varied levels of difficulty will allow for muscle-strengthening and stretching exercises that can be done individually or in groups and be combined with a walk or a jog.
