Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Joint Court of Justice start digitalizing criminal proceedings

Public Prosecutor's Office entranceThe Public Prosecutor’s Office Sint Maarten and the Joint Court of Justice on Sint Maarten on Monday, June 25th, 2018, made a start with the digitalizing of criminal proceedings. Incoming files will be scanned and processed digitally.

The decision to digitalize is a result of the experience following Hurricane Irma. It became evident that it is risky working with printed documents. Digitalization will contribute to a better control of processes and make the processes more efficient and timelier.

A joint session was held with staff of the court and Public Prosecutor’s Office on Monday, where details of the filing structure and digital box was explained.

Digitalizing of St. Maarten’s criminal proceedings is the first step towards complete digitalizing. The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the court intends to exchange digital information with other partners, including legal professionals in the future.
