PHILIPSBURG — On Thursday, October 18, 2018, social media was abuzz with a new video as Whatsapp broadcasters on the scene were quick to broadcast recorded images of two men fighting in the street at the junction between the old post office building, Quiznos restaurant and the UTS building. Bystanders can be seen trying to stop and dislodge the two men who fought a bloodied fistfight on the ground with each other.

StMaartenNews.com contacted police spokesman Ricardo Henson for a report. However, at the time of the call Henson indicated that he was waiting on a report from the watch commander at the police station. He promised to later send out a press release once a report was made. At 5pm this afternoon StMaartenNews.com received the report via its news desk.

The release stated that detectives are presently investigating a case involving two men identified with initials R.N.R. (29) and J.A.A. (24) who were involved in a very serious fist fight on the public street in front of Quiznos restaurant located on the N. Debrot Street. A police bike patrol was sent to the scene to investigate the situation after police receiving several calls of the ongoing incident.

On the arrival of the investigating officers, they encountered both men who were bleeding from wounds they received during this fight. Both men were separated by the investigating officers who took control of the situation. The reason for the fight could not be established at the moment however.

Both suspects were arrested and taken to the police station in Philipsburg and turned over to the Detective Department for further investigation. Both suspects were treated at the Philipsburg Police Station by paramedics and were detained for further questioning.
