Johnson describes action by MP as an embarrassment

PHILIPSBURG — The Minister responsible for Tourism Stuart Johnson has described the actions of Member of Parliament Rolando Brison for withholding funds that was to be paid to Caribbean Tourism Organization as an embarrassment to St. Maarten. “This has been a very embarrassing situation for our country and as a destination for wanting to promote our tourism product and rebuilding our tourism economy we cannot accept this irresponsible behavior,” said Johnson.

He stated It was only recently that MP Rolando Brison had finally paid the bill which he owed for more than a year, which has resulted in the collection agents for the organization releasing the restriction on St. Maarten. Since the lifting of the restriction the tourism representatives on the island will now be able to register for the upcoming trade and conference show and finalized the necessary arrangements.

He explained that although the Member of Parliament had received the funds for the training prior to attending, did not pay and stressed that a colleague who attended the same training paid their bill in full. He explained that because of the non-payment by the MP the government now has to spend more money to register later for the show.
