Artist Tim Dowling to open Art House St. MaARTen
St. John’s — Local Artist Tim Dowling, who has also been an animator for companies such as Disney, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network for over 15 years, is starting an art gallery and school by the name of Art House St. MaARTen, and will be having a grand opening in St. John’s, from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, November 11th, 2017.
According to Tim, “people like drawing and painting but are anxious about it and worry if they’re good enough. It does take a while to get to a high level of drawing but it can be taught. Sometimes we were told by others that we weren’t good enough, and therefore the art is abandoned although we loved, but it so important to stick with it.”
He continues to say that he not only intends to teach the fundamental skills of drawing and painting but to also teach on a higher level to those who are more advanced. Classes are sectioned by age where the adult group consists of people 18+, teens are 13 to 17, and children are 7 and up. “There is room for everyone,” he says, “and everyone can learn from each other”.
He adds that he teaches art because he believes that “unused creativity is benign” and that “humans are naturally creative beings and it is proven that early exposure to art promotes brain activity and can also help children to understand subjects such as maths, science, languages and geography”.
At the grand opening, people are welcome to sign up and register for classes and workshops as drinks and snacks are served and art activities and drawing demonstrations take place.
