Starting point for Junior Carnival Parade changed

PHILIPSBURG — The starting point for the Junior Carnival Parade has been changed. This decision was taken during an urgent meeting held on Saturday April 14th between the Sint Maarten Carnival Development Foundation and representatives of the Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM).  The junior parade will no longer start from the parking lot of Grand Marche as was published but instead it will now start at 02.00 p.m. from the Long wall road. This decision was taken protect the youngsters from the effects of the smoke which is produced by the fire on the Landfill.

The route of the parade is now as follows; Long wall road- Percy Labega Street- Walter Nisbet road, Salt Picker round about-Walter Nisbet road- Freedom Fighters Round about- Walter Nisbet road- Soualiga Boulevard. The following road closures will be as follows;

At 02.30 p.m. Walter Nisbet road will be closed at Tamarinde Steeg. No traffic will be allowed in the direction of Prins Bernard Bridge.

At 03.00 p.m. Walter Nisbet road will be closed at Hensy Beaujon Street. No traffic will be allowed in the direction of Prins Bernard Bridge.

At 03.30 p.m. Walter Nisbet road will be closed at Codville Webster Street No traffic will be allowed in the direction of Prins Bernard Bridge.

At 04.00 p.m. Walter Nisbet road will be closed at Salt Pickers Round about. No traffic will be allowed in the direction of Prins Bernard Bridge. Soualiga Boulevard will be closed at Rock Salt Drive. No traffic will be allowed in the direction of Salt Pickers round about.

At 04.30 p.m. Freedom Fighter round about will be closed. No traffic will be allowed on the Walter Nisbet road in the direction of Salt Pickers round about until the parade has entered the Soualiga Boulevard.

All other alleys and tracks along the route of the parade will be closed for motor vehicle traffic during the passing of the parade. All streets, alleys and tracks along the route will be reopened as soon after the parade has passed.

After the parade has passed Salt Pickers round about will be partially closed allowing traffic to flow on the W.A Nisbet road in the direction of Prins Bernard Bridge and Freedom Fighters round about.

All drivers are hereby advised to take keen note of this information and take all measures to avoid any necessary inconvenience or delays.
