There is need for more parking at PJIA

AIRPORT—“There is need for more parking space for aircraft at the Princess Juliana International Airport,” said General Manager of Signature, Matumi Shigemoto. He pointed out that this is one of the constraints that handling agents are being faced with presently.

This is apparently the first time since the passage of the 2017 hurricanes that so many private jets have landed at the airport bringing in celebrities to the island. According to reports among the events that the celebrities are attending is the annual New Year’s event that happens in St. Barth’s.

Shigemoto has confirmed that a number of celebrities are visiting the island at this time but said that he is not allowed to give out their names and where they are staying. According to reports some will be in Anguilla but the majority will be travelling on to St. Barths.

He indicated that because of the volume and the amount of aircraft, the management of the Princess Juliana International Airport in making available as many parking spaces as possible for the private jet aircrafts. “The airport management has also extended more hours for the private flights to come in and use the facilities at the airport,” he said.

He acknowledges the hard work of the staff of the airport who have been “working around the clock” to ensure that the visitors to the island are comfortable and encouraged to return to the island. He supports the efforts by the government in getting the relevant funding to do more for the airport and the FBO where they are looking at possibilities to enhancing this venture.
