Roseau, Dominica – November 06 2026 — The Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC) participated in the 2026 CARILEC Occupational Health and Safety Symposium held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, with the utility represented by Senior Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Officer Bernard Francis and Sugar Loaf Power Station Operator Marcus Charles. The regional gathering brought together energy sector professionals to share knowledge, examine emerging workplace safety concerns and exchange experiences on improving occupational health and safety standards across Caribbean utilities.
Discussions at the symposium focused on several key areas, including employee wellbeing, risk prevention, worker protection, safety benchmarking and the development of stronger occupational health and safety practices. A notable achievement for DOMLEC was the election of Francis as a Member at Large of the newly established CariOSH Committee for the 2027–2029 period. His appointment is expected to provide an opportunity for greater regional engagement and collaboration in advancing workplace health and safety initiatives throughout the Caribbean energy sector.
Following their participation, Francis and Charles are expected to share the knowledge, practical lessons and experiences gained with their colleagues at DOMLEC. The utility indicated that the exposure would help strengthen safety awareness, improve workplace procedures and promote employee wellbeing across its operations. DOMLEC reaffirmed that safeguarding its workforce remains a central priority as it continues to provide electricity services to the nation.
