By Hilbert Haar Well, well well. Hear hear. The appeals court has acquitted Maria Buncamper-Molanus and her husband Claudius of quite some charges in the so-called Eco Green-investigation. Terms like ‘no crime was committed’ and ‘I have done nothing wrong’ will start singing around again. And of course, it is a fact that the court ruling favors the beleaguered Buncampers in many ways. That they established a bogus company called Eco Green to avoid paying taxes over rental income from a piece on land on Soualiga Boulevard is not against the law, the court ruled. Like everyone else, the Buncampers…
PHILIPSBURG – The Common Court of Justice has sentenced former Public Health Minister Maria Buncamper-Molanus and her husband Claudius to a 25,000-guilders fine and 240 hours of community service each for tax fraud with their bogus company Eco Green. The appeal against the verdict from the Court in First Instance still paid off, because the conditional 12-month prison sentence it imposed is now off the table. The appeals court acquitted the Buncampers of most charges but held the couple accountable for filing incorrect tax returns for Eco Green – a company of which Claudius Buncamper and Maria Buncamper-Molanus were the…
Philipsburg — The Ombudsman, Dr. Nilda Arduin, has started a systemic investigation at the level of the functionally responsible Minister, into the procurement process/Procurement Management Policy of Princess Juliana International Airport Operating Company N.V. Considering the nature of a complaint filed with the Ombudsman against PJIAE, and PJIAE having been identified and listed…

By Hilbert Haar On a Wednesday morning, I get up at 5.45 a.m. We’ll be on the road again today and I start thinking that we ought to slow down a bit. Nine countries in the not even one hundred days since we left St. Maarten at the end of June starts to feel like a useless exercise to get into the Guinness Book of Records for visiting as many countries as possible in the time I still have left on this earth. But hey, this is not a bucket list of a dying man – we have plenty of…
By Hilbert Haar Super typhoon Magnkhut has missed Hanoi and barreled into southern China, so Myriam and I feel confident traveling back up north with the intention to visit the mountainous region of Sapa. Big mistake; more about that later. First, I’ll take a little step forward to the Sunday night when we arrived in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. This is the ninth country we visit on our trip that began on June 26 when we left St. Maarten for Europe. Since then, we have been in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Poland, Russian, Mongolia, South Korea, Vietnam and Laos.…
