Soulful Company Concert set stage for rest of carnival season

Maxi Priest - Soulful Company Concert 2018

Great Bay — What was designed to be the first specialty concert organized by the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) last evening may end up being one of the main attractions in future carnival related events.

Oswald - Soulful Company Concert 2018It was dubbed as the ‘Soulful Company’ with the sole purpose of attracting a mixture of party-goers with a star studded line up. As ironic as it may seem, it all started with local vocalist Malaika Maxwell, who had the honor and pleasure of sharing the stage with Oswald Clerveus, singer, song writer and composer Phylissia Ross and the legendary reggae singer Maxi Priest, real name Max Alfred Elliot.

Maxwell, whose musical career began at a very tender age began to gain notoriety singing as a back up vocalist of Oswald back in 2009 and has been performing solo from 2016. She had the voice to back up her looks and as the first artiste on stage, she delivered.

Maxwell - Soulful Company Concert 2018The concert reached another level when Oswald, the natural born entertainer who specializes in Zouk, Kompa and R&B took to the stage. He knew exactly what the ladies in the audience liked and his interaction with the crowd during his time on and off stage was commendable.

Ross, the third performer to hit the stage was not only there to sing, she also played the piano. But just like Oswald, she extended an open invitation for three dancers to join her on stage.

For the better part of one minute, each of the men had the rare opportunity to lock arms and legs with Ross much to the delight of the thousands present. Her charismatic personality added to her ability to be an excellent entertainer and from the time she appeared on stage there was never a dull moment.Ross - Soulful Company Concert 2018

Maxi Priest, a reggae singer with  Jamaican blood in his veins that was born in London is known for his reggae fusion ability and lovers rock needed no formal introduction. He was the one that brought down the curtains on the concert.

His relations to Jacob ‘Killa’ Milla, a reggae icon meant that music runs in the family and he still has the ability to run the show anywhere he goes. During his time on stage, he too  was able to deliver, the crowd certainly got their money’s worth.
