Today Newspaper building severely damaged

TODAY Newspaper Office damaged

PHILIPSBURG — Readers, subscribers, advertisers and regular visitors to the TODAY Newspaper offices will have seen by now that the office building has been ravaged by Hurricane Irma, leaving half of the building roofless. Exactly above the main section of the newspaper offices where the daily operations took place.

Computers and plate printers have been totally drenched in the salty rainwater Irma dumped on the island. We strongly doubt these will be usable after this. Surprisingly, the offices were not looted. So management was able to salvage vital administration and other important documents from the offices and secure these safely elsewhere.

The printery has also been ripped open and exposed to the elements. Hurricane Irma has been merciless in her devastation and the Today newspaper business has been victimized like many others on the island. Careful assessment of the damages and the necessary due diligence will have to be made prior to any decision on the continuation of the business as is.

Until a decision has been made about the future of the newspaper business, the news will continue to be published online at www.today.sx and updates posted on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TODAY.SX. Presently, an email newsletter is bring prepared and a Whatsapp messaging system is being worked on to continue providing news, alerts, updates and breaking news to the reader and subscriber base.

The day after the hurricane and after seeing the damage sustained by the Today office building, the General Manager of The Daily Herald in the person of Steven De Windt was so kind to offer us a desk upstairs in their building that has a generator and highspeed internet, from where we have been able to keep the Today.sx website up-to-date and the Facebook page going with news and especially with photo’s from our intrepid photo journalist, Milton Pieters.

The 16 employees of the TODAY Management N.V.company are hereby requested to get in contact with the General Manager, Terrance Rey, as soon as possible, as management would like to organize a general staff meeting as soon as a meeting with the owner has been held to discuss the status of the company after the total damages have been assessed.

Management of the TODAY newspaper is presently in discussions with The Daily Herald management regarding the outsourcing of the printing and distribution of the newspaper for Today Management NV. Once a decision has been made, our loyal readers, subscribers and advertisers will be updated on this.

In the meantime, please follow us on Facebook and read our news articles online at Today.sx and if you have not added your email address to our distribution list, please email us via info@today.sx in order to have your email address added.

Thank you!
