Roseau, Dominica – October 20 2026 — Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that Dominica Social Security (DSS) Director Janice Jean Jacques Thomas will be among the recipients of a national award during the country’s Independence Day observances on November 3, 2026. The announcement was made while he delivered the keynote address at the opening of the 34th Meeting of Heads of CARICOM Social Security Organisations, hosted at the InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort and Spa.
The Prime Minister used the occasion to recognise the work of the DSS board, management and staff, crediting their collective efforts with strengthening the institution in recent years. He pointed to improvements in public engagement and the organisation’s efforts to make its services more accessible, noting that these developments have helped raise the institution’s profile and build greater confidence among the people it serves.
Skerrit also singled out Thomas for her years of service to Dominica’s social security system, affectionately describing her as “the real Social Security lady” as he confirmed the upcoming award. He indicated that the recognition reflects her sustained contribution to the institution and its development. While acknowledging that further improvements remain possible, the Prime Minister maintained that the DSS has become a more prominent and trusted presence in the lives of Dominicans, with Thomas playing a significant role in that progress.
