GREAT BAY – The Court in First Instance sentenced Garfield Junior Barnes on Wednesday to 99 days of imprisonment, with 90 days suspended and 3 years of probation for a burglary he committed in a house on the Valley Estate Road on November 14, 2015. A second defendant, a 15-year old boy, was sentenced to 98 days with 90 days suspended, 3 years of probation and supervision during the probation period by the Court of Guardianship. GREAT BAY – The Court in First Instance sentenced Shawn Emmanuel Benders on Wednesday to a 4-month prison sentence for fencing a stolen car on November 29 of last year. Benders was found driving the car with Veon Aaron P. in the passenger seat. The latter was also charged, but the court acquitted him. Benders told the court he had bought the car for $300 and that he owed the seller another $100. The court found no proof that the 22-year old Benders had actually stolen the car. GREAT BAY – Vromi-Minister Chirstophe Emmanuel and his cabinet toured the sanitary landfill commonly known as the dump with the Head of the Infrastructure Management department, Claudius  Buncamper. The camera crew from the Department of Communication of the Government of Sint Maarten joined the tour to take video footage of the dump. GREAT BAY – Kendall Dupersoy has been appointed as the CEO of the TelEm Group of companies, Prime Minister William Marlin said at Wednesday’s council of Ministers press briefing. The telecom provider has been without a CEO for almost eight years, since the departure of interim manager Pieter Drenth in the fall of 2009. Dupersoy previously managed the IT department at the princess Juliana International Airport. He will start working at TelEm per February 1. The correct date is Saturday July 1 as stipulated in article 23, paragraph 3a of the Labor regulation.
