Courthouse reopens on October 16

GREAT BAY – The courthouse in Philipsburg will reopen its doors to the public on October 16, the court’s management announced in a press statement. The date has been chosen in consultation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Dean of the Bar Association. Until the reopening it is only possible to file urgent requests.

The courthouse will work with an adjusted agenda. There will be court hearings for all judicial fields, but some will proceed at a lower than normal frequency. Inmates will be heard in the courthouse again from October 16.

The court sessions that had to be postponed due to the passing of Hurricane Irma will be scheduled within the new agenda. For the time being judges and court recorders will be flown in from Aruba and Curacao.

The courthouse and its annex were damaged during Hurricane Irma. The roof of the courthouse has been fixed and the court staff is busy with the cleanup. The servers are working again and by the time of the reopening most of the airco systems will function again as well. The annex will most likely not be available yet on October 16.
