Inspectorate TEATT requests businesses to have documents on display and to up-date business information
GREAT BAY — Sint Maarten (DCOMM) — The Inspectorate of TEATT (Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport & Telecommunications) is requesting all businesses to have their documents on display as required by law in the event of an inspection.
According to art. 43, Permits Ordinance, AB 2013, GT no. 126, businesses selling food and beverages are required to have visibly displayed at a height of two (2) meters above the floor an operational permit or a certified copy of a permit.
Additionally, the Inspectorate also inspects all businesses to ensure that they have their business/director’s permit as well as a valid Chamber of Commerce & Industry registration visibly displayed within the business.
Failing to have the aforementioned documents visibly displayed will result in sanctions being issued by inspectors from Inspectorate TEATT.
Due to several inspections that have been carried out, a number of violations have been found. Businesses that fail to follow the law according to their licenses will be summoned to visit the Inspectorate and therefore are being requested to avoid any inconvenience by adhering to the laws of the country.
The Inspectorate is also calling on businesses who have changed their address by relocating due to the passing of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, to make this known primarily to the Department of Economic Licenses and other government related and semi-related government bodies such as the Chamber of Commerce & Industry, SZV Social and Health Insurances and the Tax Department about the aforementioned change.
It is the responsibility of every business to make sure that their company information is up to date at the various government and semi-government entities.
For the Ministry of TEATT this means that you should have at your place of business proof of payment of your annual business license and director’s license fee for the current year.
Since the passing of the September 2017 hurricanes, Inspectorate TEATT has been having some challenges in locating certain businesses and/or business owners, therefore, the Inspectorate is appealing to those business owners who have relocated to update their business information.
Inspectorate TEATT is also advising the business community to safeguard their documents (business license, operational/director’s license, Chamber of Commerce & Industry extract, other permits and licenses) by placing them in a water tight container.
The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season started on June 1, and therefore, all important documents should be properly secured prior to a hurricane strike, hence why businesses should have in place a hurricane disaster plan.
