Two student teens arrested for serious ill-treatment

KPSM Police SXMPHILIPSBURG — Detectives of the Police Juvenile department are presently investigating the serious ill-treatment of a 14 year old student. The incident took place on Monday November 6th in front of the former Sheik Supermarket on the L.B. Scot road. The victim according to witnesses was attacked by four other students attending three other secondary schools.

During the fight one of the students involved in the fight was in the possession of an aluminum baseball bat and used it to strike the victim in his head. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for treatment. The victim was released from hospital after treatment.

The first suspect in this case, a 16 years old male, was arrested on Tuesday November 7th. He was taken to the Police Head Quarter where he was held for questioning. After being questioned he was released. The second suspect in the case was identified by detectives by means of video footage of the incident. This 14 year old suspect was arrested on Thursday November 9th by detectives and was taken to the police department where he is held for questioning and further investigation. More arrests in this case will follow.

The Police Juvenile Department is sending a strong message to all students and mainly the parents of these youngsters informing them that this incident is a very serious crime and it will absolutely not be tolerated. Striking the victim with a metal bat in the head could have led to serious injuries or the death of this student. The Police Department is urging the parents to have very serious and extensive talks with their children concerning this type of behavior and the consequences it has.
