PHILIPSBURG – On Tuesday, November 27 at 9 a.m. the currently largest cruise ship in the world will dock in the port of Philipsburg. The Symphony of the Seas will spend the day in port and leave again at 6 p.m. The vessel is part of the fleet of Royal Caribbean; it was delivered to the company last week Friday by STX France at the ship yard of Saint-Nazaire in the western part of France. PHILIPSBURG – The public prosecutor demanded 36 months with 6 months suspended and 2 years of probation against Juan L., owner of the Juan Bar in Cole Bay for ill-treatment, human trafficking and the illegal employment of eleven foreign women who worked as prostitutes in the rooms he rented out to them. The prosecution also wants to seize cash worth a bit more than $5,500 investigators found hidden in the defendant’s bedroom in dollar, guilder and euro denominations. PHILIPSBURG – On December 21, unknown gunmen fired shots at Erno Labega jr. when he came back home. His car was riddled with bullet holes and Labega sustained serious injuries, but he survived. When police arrived on the scene, officers found a handgun behind the victim’s car; when they searched his house, they found a semi-automatic Uzi hidden in a wardrobe. For the possession of that last weapon, the Court in First Instance sentenced Labega on Wednesday to 12 months imprisonment. SABA/PHILIPBURG — In January of 2018 the school board of the Sacred Heart Primary School in Saba determined that raising the bar in teaching standards and investing in their teacher’s professional development was an ongoing priority.  Unanimously the board voted to implement the Teachers of Promise (T.O.P.) Program. PHILIPSBURG – The Court in First Instance handled the cases of four suspects in the Emerald-investigation on Tuesday and the demands from the prosecution against all four were identical to those issued in February against two other suspects: 15 months of imprisonment and a conditional fine of 250,000 guilders, combined with 3 years of probation.
