Cul-de-Sac — The St. Maarten Tzu Chi Foundation continued its long-standing New Year’s Day tradition on January 1, when a number of cheerful volunteers visited the St. Martin’s Home in St. John’s Estate to treat and entertain seniors on the first day of 2018. In the spirit of giving and sharing, volunteers distributed 76 packages and 150 eggless Ponche Kuba cupcakes to seniors and St. Martin’s Home staffers. Philipsburg — On Monday January 8th at around 2.30pm, the police central dispatch received a call that an armed robbery had taken place at the office of Leonard Enterprises located in Madame Estate. Information received is that two robbers, one of which was carrying a firearm stormed the establishment and stole a phone and an undisclosed sum of money. They then sped away in a small car, but the color and number plate are not known at this point. Philipsburg — The Public Prosecutor’s Office Sint Maarten states, regarding the article today (January 9th, 2018) in The Daily Herald, that there is no criminal investigation ongoing against Mr. Emil Lee at this moment in relation to abuse of car number plates or theft of gasoline/using government fuel bonds to purchase fuel for personal use in the last months of 2017 after the hurricane Irma.
