PHILIPSBURG – Two sources have independently from each other confirmed that registrar Maritsa James-Christina is the employee of the court in Philipsburg who has been suspended pending an investigation into irregularities with a third-party bank account.
The prosecutor’s office declined on Wednesday evening to confirm the identity of the fraudulent court-employee, but our sources are confident about their observations. “The prosecutor’s office cannot give a name and it cannot confirm the name mentioned,” spokeswoman Hazel Durand informed stmaartennews.com on Wednesday evening.
The Common Court of Justice filed a complaint against its long-time employee with the prosecutor’s office earlier this month. The court announced its findings in a press release on Friday, March 9, without providing the identity of the suspected employee.
The court uses this third-party bank account to deposit money it has seized from criminals.
James-Christina, who is also the registrar of the Constitutional Curt, was recently spotted at the Princess Casino at a blackjack table. It is currently unclear whether there is a link between her casino-visit and the irregularities with the bank account.
The irregularities came to light after the Common Court conducted internal research at all its branches – in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao and St. Maarten – in to the administration and financial management of the third-party bank accounts.
In St. Maarten the findings gave reason for further investigation. That action brought the irregularities to light.
