PHILIPSBURG – The Court in First Instance sentenced Juan Linzey on Wednesday morning to 36 months of imprisonment for ill-treatment, human smuggling, promoting prostitution and employing people who were without a valid title on the island. Of the sentence, 12 months are suspended. The court also seized cash worth approximately $5,518 in dollar, euro and guilder denominations. At the trial on March 28, the public prosecutor demanded a prison term of 36 months with 6 months suspended. PHILIPSBURG – Minister Emil Lee (Public Health) has negotiated an amendment to the contract with public drinking water supplier Seven Seas, in close cooperation with VROMI-Minister Miklos Giterson, Finance Minister Mike Ferrier and utilities company GEBE. The amendment will save the country approximately 4 million guilders ($2.2 million) per year  for the next three years. In 2016 the government amended the pay or take contract with Seven Seas under which the country was obliged to take 18,500 cubic meters of water per day instead of 15,500 cubic meters. MARIGOT – Alain Richardson, leader of the political party En Marche vers le Progrès (On the way to progress) has to give up his seat in the Territorial Council because of campaign financing violations. Ramona Connor will replace him. Jules Charville (Generation Hope) was punished for a different violation but the ruling against him does not include that he has to leave the Territorial Council.
