Philipsburg — Detectives are presently investigating a shooting which took place on Guadeloupe road in Madame Estate on Thursday December 21st at approximately 01.45 a.m. One male victim identified with initials E.L. was shot by an unknown person (s). He was transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for medical treatment and remains admitted for observation in stable condition. No other details regarding this investigation will be released at this time due to the sensitivity of the case.

SCHIPHOL – The court in Schiphol found on Thursday morning two police officers guilty of the ill-treatment of Mitch Henriquez which resulted in the death of the 42-year old Aruban. Both officers get a 6-month suspended prison sentence, the Telegraaf reported. Officer DH01 maintained the chokehold on Henriquez for 72 seconds, while the combination of violence (hitting in the face, using pepper spray) also makes the violence of officer DH02 wrongful. Philipsburg — With a joint effort between the St. Dominic High School Interact Club and The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle we were able to put together two joint projects. Mid Isle headed the project to donate thirty care packages for the less fortunate people in the community. These packages contained food items, toiletries, handmade iced Christmas cookies along with a candy cane. Ten baskets were donated to the Anglican Church on Back Street, ten baskets went to the Bishop Ellis Foundation and ten baskets went to Social Services for distribution.
