Henri Brookson was born on Aruba 1950. In the early 1970s he traveled to the Netherlands to attend teacher training (kweekschool), eventually settling in Luttenberg where he distinguished himself as a warm, committed educator in a community not used to outsiders.
While in the Netherlands, he and his wife Agnes (“Sunshine”) raised their family and organized many community events — from street parties and local sports matches to cultural gatherings and winter festivals.
In 1988, the Brooksons returned to Sint Maarten, where Henri resumed his teaching career (notably at Marie Laurence School) and became deeply involved in public service. He later held important public posts, including Deputy Minister Plenipotentiary of the Netherlands Antilles and Acting Lieutenant Governor of Sint Maarten.
Henri Brookson was known for his passionate advocacy for education, his ability to connect communities, and his vision for creating opportunities for those with fewer resources. Even in his later years, he worked on projects that merged history, culture, and social impact.
He passed away in 2025 at the age of 75, leaving behind a legacy of service, bridge-building, and inspiration across Sint Maarten and beyond.
