GREAT BAY – The Philipsburg Jubilee Library has been hit by more than one disaster. First Hurricane Irma ripped through the building and then the looters came – not for books but for the computers from the computer lab. Obviously, the library needs a lot of help to get back on its feet. On Wednesday staff was busy listing the books that have to be discarded because they have been damaged by the rain. GREAT BAY – Utilities Company Gebe is allowed to immediately terminate the labor contract of a former supervisor accounts payable because the woman reached retirement age some time ago. The Court in First Instance ruled in favor of Gebe, saying that in the local community and within Gebe in particular, reaching retirement age is considered a lawful reason to terminate a labor contract. SIMPSON BAY — In a press release issued today by Winair, the company updates the general public on its present situation. The press release stated that Winair had repositioned its aircrafts in St. Vincent prior to hurricane Irma and that currently the fleet is operating from the island of St. Kitts as fuel and security for aircraft are not yet present in St. Maarten. GREAT BAY – Military personnel and Gebe-employees worked on the installation of a reverse osmosis water production installation in front of the Festival Village yesterday. The installation will produce fresh drinking water and is expected to be operational today, Wednesday September 27. The installation takes water from a nearby fire hydrant. It is pumped into a tank sends the water through the purifying machinery into a second tank.
