It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Marlin, a respected statesman, devoted family man, and beloved member of the St. Maarten community. Roy departed this life on May 19, 2018, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and service.
As a longtime member of the Democratic Party (DP), Roy served St. Maarten with dedication and integrity. Over the course of his career, he held key positions as Commissioner, Island Council member, and later as a Member of Parliament after St. Maarten attained country status within the Dutch Kingdom. He also lent his leadership to the public utility GEBE, where he served on the Supervisory Board, including as chairman.
Known as a “political heavyweight”, Roy was admired for his conviction, loyalty, and sharp insight into governance and finance. Yet, beyond politics, he was remembered as a man with a soft heart, who cared deeply for his family, colleagues, and the people of St. Maarten.
His passing leaves a profound void in the political and civic life of the island, but his contributions will continue to guide and inspire future generations.
He is survived by his family, friends, and a grateful community that will always remember his service and dedication.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace. Roy’s voice and vision will live on in the history and future of St. Maarten.”
