Birthplace & Residence
Resided In: Sint Maarten
Died: Saturday, May 19, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roland Bryson, affectionately known as “Paben” or “Mi-Paben.” A beloved cultural icon of St. Maarten, Paben left us on May 19, 2018, after a sudden heart attack at the St. Maarten Medical Center.
Paben was more than a performer — he was a pillar of culture, a retired civil servant, and a cherished figure whose presence brought laughter, joy, and identity to countless community events. From Carnival celebrations to theatrical performances, he carried the spirit of St. Maarten in everything he did.
His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the performances he shared, and the pride he instilled in generations of St. Maarteners. He will be remembered as a man of the people — vibrant, humorous, and deeply committed to the cultural fabric of his island.
Though he has left this world, his influence endures. Family, friends, and the wider community join together in celebrating a life that cannot be forgotten.
“Rest peacefully, Paben. Your laughter, spirit, and love for St. Maarten will echo in our hearts forever.”
